Machine polishing is the professional way to restore paintwork by removing common defects such as swirls, scratches, etchings, holograms, water spots, oxidation and minor abrasions, refining the paintwork to a flawless finish.

All paint correction processes use abrasive automotive polishes and compounds to smooth the top layer of clearcoat (or single-coat topcoat) over and around the defects, down to the bottom of the deepest defect. Rather than removing the defect directly, this removes a microscopic layer of the entire area around it until the defect simply disappears. Because of the way sanding formulas must break down during this process, using a machine polisher is always the fastest and most effective method of getting the most out of your polishing product.

Heat and physical friction break down the abrasive particles in compounds as you work through them, creating an increasingly finer finish. At the microscopic level, these small particles are smashed together, causing them to break up into smaller and smaller particles that cut the surface less and less and refine it more and more. This is what gives a compound its 'cutting range'. This is also why it is important to work the polish completely (usually indicated by the residue turning clear) so that it 'finishes' properly and creates the most refined surface possible with that particular abrasive. When you use a machine polisher, this process is much faster and more consistent than doing it by hand. That's why a machine is the choice of professionals – simply because you get amazing results.
